The Kangaroo has begun the quest for his missing shoe and while passing through a forest, he meets the rude and unhelpful R.B. Koala.
For this postcard and for the ones to follow, I was able to meet with Richard in person to discuss the designs. This was much easier than the usual form of email contact.
These are the stages building up to the complete coloured version of the Koala and his tree.
The above images are the individual watercolour parts.
At our meeting, Richard had requested that R.B. Koala should have an american-style mail box attached to his tree.
Feedback:
'I think the Koala looks good. It needs more texture or detail. The main problem is with the tree. It does not look like a eucalyptus tree. Take a look at some images. The tree is too bushy and thick and the bark needs to be a lighter shade of brown.'
I drew out bunches of leaves to place on the tree and painted the new, paler bark of the eucalyptus. Then, pieced all of the parts together to create the image below.
And here is the angry R.B Koala, grumbling and glaring down at the Kangaroo from his Eucalyptus tree.
Feedback:
'Ok, the Koala is fine.'
